The Blind Way

Many people think I am inflexible. That its my way or the highway. That I am a hard nosed SOB. Its too funny I was talking with someone recently and they finally put it into stark contrast for me. Actually explaining it to them put it into stark contrast for me.

The Blind Way Podcast
There are many adaptive things that I do. I bring these adaptive capabilities together to do things to function. I have a blind way of doing the things that I do that accommodate my needs and offer me what I need to get something done or enjoy an experience. It has nothing to do with my way or the highway its what works and what doesn’t with my capabilities. That may be a definition of inflexibility but it capability driven not hard nosed stubbornness.
At work I was always accused of being inflexible not conforming to the culture. Not meeting the needs of my colleagues. I’ve even been accused of being insensitive to my colleagues. What I now know is that indeed I may be inflexible or not willing to conform. In a lot of cases I can’t change how I do something. If I do then I won’t be able to do it any longer. If I conform then I loose tremendous capabilities.
What i’ve realized is that its not me that is inflexible its the culture or organization that is not willing to accommodate me and how I do things.
