Its Crunch Time
In these tough economic times people with disabilities are going to take a huge hit. I read an article today that governments are thinking of canceling the death penalty to save money. You know if you have a disability that your screwed when the death row dude is going to live because they can’t afford to carry out sentence.
Its Crunch Time Podcast
During good economic times between 75% and 95% of people with a disability like I have are unemployed. I am very good at what I do. I have been world leading in my field. All right I can’t resist either. I have been outstanding in my field a number of times. Yes just like the farmer. But I too find myself on the street.
Being disabled is expensive. Getting necessary accommodations to get a job and retain a job are expensive. Accommodations can cost many thousands of dollars. Its a pain in the butt it takes energy. It means when your job searching you had better be a Pagan God at what you do. Because for the most part its easier to find people who don’t need accommodations who can get the job done.
Its been nearly four months. There has only been one other time in my career that I’ve been out of work this long. Economic downturns and the unpredictability of life all make for nasty nasty circumstances. I am having to work harder and longer. Sorry for the lack of podcasts and blog posts but hay I need to find a job. Pay the bills. Keep the taxmen and collection agents away. That kind of thing.
I have had to broaden my job search to a wider geographic region just to keep the job search going. Where I am is in a DEEP hole. I’m not sure what strategy to take ride it out here and wait for it to get better here. This is and remains my preferred strategy. Or move and follow a potential opportunity to where the economic down turn might not be at its worst and potentially loose the gig.
