Enlightened
It’s an easy thing to say, “in this day and age you’d think that blah blah blah wouldn’t happen”, or “We are so enlightened this should never happen”. In my experience this isn’t a statement of support but a statement of ridicule. Where does morality come from. Where do our values come from. It’s interesting to watch people as we go through life. The ones that believe in something larger than themselves and the ones who think this is it baby turn and burn then you die.
- Use my disability against me
- Tell me I’m not disabled
- Impact my relationship with my kids for their own gains
- Get me fired or removed from a project because they are intimidated by me
- limit me based on their own limitations
- Lie
- Cheat
- Steal
- Stalking watching me to mock me
- Put me down to feel better about themselves
- Hurt me to make themselves feel better
- Punish me as a reason to live
There are some of us that are genuinely governed by a belief a thing larger than ourselves. I read a piece on alcoholics anonymous and they still after all these years don’t know how it works. I personally think its simple. You give people back a belief in something larger than themselves then they can forgive themselves and others and get on with life. A profound over simplification but without believe without FAITH how can we truly exist as “enlightened” human beings.
Faith is key to our enlightened lives, faith in ourselves faith in others faith in a purpose and a meaning we can’t possibly understand. Only with faith are people genuinely love, empathetic, hope, care, love, be a friend, be happy and on and on. Once we lose faith we lose all hope and need to move on and find faith again. That is what makes us human.
I honestly don’t think we are the most intelligent. I look at dogs or other animals and they can do things and maintain focus in ways we can’t. Why do you think they use dogs to guide blind people? If you used a person to guide a blind person the blind person would be killed by the inattentiveness of the guide. The blind person would be run into or over something or left in a place where they could be run over and poof gone. There are animals with significantly longer attention spans than we as humans have.
When someone tells me that an event, behaviour, or circumstances can’t happen in this day and age are full of shit. Get your head out of your orifice and smell the roses. It happens all the time. Its just a matter of degree based on the cultures around you and in direct proportion to the amount of faith of those around you. After all doesn’t it take faith to imagine that a disabled person and work and live and play in your world? Believe me when I say it takes a LOT of faith to believe you’ll let me.
