Dating Disclosure II
On-Line dating has been depressing. I signed up on Match.com and Yahoo Personals. I have been wresting with when to disclose my disability. Well after a couple of weeks my experience is that only 2 people out of about 30 are willing to continue talking to me after I disclose my disability. Both are very special people.

The people that have continued to communicate with me are not special because they continue to communicate with me. But because of their character and ability to see beyond the disability and have the emotional intelligence to understand that I am just a person. They also have a depth of character that makes them interesting to me as a life companion.
One of these people has found someone else to connect with further but has been providing advice to me on managing disability disclosure in my profile. The other is very interesting. I have to say I am enamoured. More later perhaps.
I have to say this last couple of weeks has hurt. But as always I’ve learned and grown. Below is my new profile. As my profile advisor is telling me I may get fewer introductions but at least the people introducing themselves will be of higher character.
“I am a passionate soul. I love to live life and experience everything it has to offer. I drive life and am not afraid of much. I go where angles fear to tread. Basically I play live and work hard.
I am a good man. I am very considerate and caring. I love to learn about others and support their interests and passions and I enjoy sharing mine. I want to share my life with someone who is a partner.
I am legally blind and have been since birth. I have run a marathon and a sprint triathlon. I am independent. I have an excellent established career. I sing and perform in operas and musical theatre. Currently I am working on breaking into voice acting blogging / podcasting and recording. Thank god I have a day job.
I have presence. I’ve been called big loud and obnoxious. But really I’m just a big teddy bear. I love big bear hugs.
I listen to music, sit in front of fires, have deep conversations and roast marshmallows.”
