Hunting for a Job

The downturn of 08 has been nasty. I left a 6 year career at Microsoft to go to back being an independent consultant. You’d think I was smarter than this but hind sight is always 20/20. Anyway. I had a great contract and it went very well good results and a good reference. But with all things my contract ended.

Now the fun begins. Finding the next opportunity.
I am following very closely the advice of “What Color is your Parachute?” and networking networking networking. So if you know of someone looking for an IT guy, not only an IT guy but a GREAT IT GUY, let me know.
I am still talking to people and I”m still getting interviews. Oh if you’ve been wondering why the number of Blog posts has decreased well its because I’m enjoying my new full time job of job hunting. I am now officially a “Job Hunter”.
There are cycles for jobs and this is the worst time of year but that isn’t a deterrent to me as there is always someone getting promoted fired or changing jobs for some reason or another. So there will still be opportunities for me to get back in the game.
On the path to the next job there are the NO’s you have to deal with. If I was willing to relocate I’d be working already. So there are jobs out there. I’ve gone through a number of NO’s already. Jobs that aren’t a good fit. Jobs in the wrong place. Jobs doing the wrong thing. Plus Jobs that I wouldn’t be successful at. I’m hunting for my Yes.
I have to tell you there was a job that asked for a valid drivers licensee or the ability to get around quickly. I applied.
Its a funny thing job hunting. I have a feeling I’ve already found my next opportunity its just they don’t know that yet. Life can change in an instant and all it takes is that right phone call after being in the right place at the right time.
I’ll keep you posted.
