Eyes Open

I am stunned trilled happy ecstatic and absolutely amazed. This is the best I’ve seen in over five years. The Strabismus surgery in combination with new glasses has made the world of difference. I would estimate at a quality of seeing improvement in the 40% to 50% range. Significantly reducing my eye strain and pain. I am still legally blind but the quality of my vision is awesome. I admit some twinge of pain in not having this experience while still at Microsoft, I might still be there. I’m happy where life has brought me regardless so why waste time speculating on what if. As Roger Whittaker used to sing “If Only If, If Only”, I’m not going to wallow in anything.

My journey started a number of years ago while I was still at Microsoft.  I knew I was having trouble seeing.  My eye doctor in Seattle said not to worry glasses will fix all.  The glasses didn’t help. I begged to have the Strabismus surgery but no luck. I had this ringing in the back of my head that instantly went away when I had the Strabismus surgery. I attribute the ringing in my head to eye strain from dealing with the significant misalignment of my eyes.
When your buying glasses you definitely get what you pay for. In the US I was using basic carbonate lenses, in my opinion not so good. Yes, they are safe but the optical qualities of the material is to say the least lacking. I am currently into some lenses from Crizal and with the coatings etc. I am seeing almost as well as I did when I wore Zeiss high index glass. Which I still love but yes it is unsafe having a piece of glass in from of your eye less than a millimeter thick.
The improvement to my vision is significant.   I can’t say that word enough, “significant”.
Even had the stupid thought about dumping the cane.   God made sure I was put back in my place almost immediately. I was walking to the office and couldn’t see any of the stop lights or pedestrian lights. I will be sticking with the cane. My vision improvement although, significant, isn’t that significant. I am still blind.
I am still adjusting to being able to use my right eye so much. Was hiking this weekend and it was wonderful to see so much but some visual pain due to the adjusting my eyes will be doing for a few days.
The technician at the glasses place laughed at me. She was saying no one is happy to have glasses. I am ecstatic. I couldn’t stop saying AWESOME AWESOME!!!
